The workgroup, LAN & WAN

The workgroup, LAN & WAN

Merging computer and communications technology affects all of the forms of computer system organization. Nowadays, the concept of "computer center", in a room that contains a large computer, a place where all users to process work, a concept that is out of date. Single computer model that serves all computing tasks an organization has been replaced by a collection of numerous computers separate but interrelated in performing their duties. This system is called the Network Computer (Computer Network).

What is a computer network and how can it help?
Computer networks can be interpreted as a set of interconnection of autonomous computers. Two computers is said to form a network if they can exchange information. Restricted autonomous term here is to distinguish the system master / slave. If a computer can make another computer on or off and control it, then the computer the computer is not autonomous. A system with control unit (control unit) and a number of other computers is not a slave network; large computer with a remote printer and not a network terminalpun.

Benefits Network
In general, the network has several benefits that more than a stand-alone computer and business world have also recognized that access to modern information technology has always had a competitive advantage compared to the limited competition in the technology field.

1. Network resource management enables more efficient. For example, many users can share a single printer with high quality, compared to using low-quality printers at each desk. In addition, the network software licenses can be more expensive than stand-alone licenses separately for the same number of users.
2. Network to help maintain reliable information and keep up-to-date. Centralized data storage system that is well managed mengaskses allows many users of data from various different locations, and restrict access to the data while being processed.
3. Network helps accelerate the process of sharing data (data sharing). Data transfer on the network is always faster than other means of data sharing is not a network.
4. Network allows a working group to communicate more efficiently. Letters and delivery of electronic messages is the substance of most of the network systems, in addition to scheduling systems, project monitoring, online conference and groupware, which all help the team work more productively.
5. Network to help businesses in serving their clients more effectively. Long-distance access to centralized data allows employees to serve clients in the field and the client can directly communicate with suppliers.

There are three common types of networks used include:
- The workgroup,
- Lan Network, and
- Wan Network

Workgroup Network

This network consists of several computers connected by using the Network Interface Card or commonly referred to as Local Area Network Card, and by using BNC or UTP cable. All units connected computers can access data from other computers and can also print a document to a printer connected to other computers.

Benefits Workgroup Network.
• Exchange files can be done easily (File Sharing).
• Use the printer can be done by all units of the computer (Printer Sharing).
• Access data from / to other computers can be restricted to the level of password security to be given.
• Communication between employees can be done by using the E-Mail & Chat.
• If one computer unit connected to the modem, then all or part of the computer units in this network can access to the Internet or send faxes via modem 1.

LAN Network

LAN (Local Area Network) is a collection of computers, where there are several computer units (clients) and 1 unit of computer data banks (the server). Between each client and between clients and servers can exchange each other's files and a printer connected to the computer units are connected to the LAN network.
Based on the cable used, there are two ways to create a LAN network, ie with BNC cables and UTP cables.

LAN network benefits.

• Exchange files can be done easily (File Sharing).
• Use the printer can be done by all clients (Printer Sharing).
• data files can be stored on the server, so data can be accessed from all clients according to the authorization of securities of all employees, which can be made based on the company's organizational structure so that data security is guaranteed.
• File data out / in from / to a server can be in control.
• The process of data backup becomes easier and faster.
• The risk of loss of data by computer virus becomes very small.
• Communication between employees can be done by using the E-Mail & Chat.
• If one client / server connected to the modem, then all or most computers on the LAN can access the network to the Internet or send faxes via modem 1.

WAN Network

WAN (Wide Area Network) is a collection of LANs and / or workgroup connected by communication using a modem and Internet networks, from / to the head office and branches, and between branch offices. In this network system, the exchange of data between offices can be done quickly and with relatively low cost. This network system can use the Internet network that already exists, to connect between the head office and branch offices or with Stand Alone PC / Notebook that was in another city or country.
WAN Network benefits.
• Server headquarters can serve as a data bank of the branch office.
• Communication between the office can use the E-Mail & Chat.
• Document / file is usually sent by fax or postal packet, can be sent via e-mail and transfer files from / to the head office and branches with a relatively low cost and within a very fast time.
• Data Pooling and Updating Data can be made between the office every day at the appointed time.
